Why Sustainable Farming Is Good Business, Not Just Good Practice

18 February 2026

Sustainability initiatives are often framed as a cost, but on a working livestock farm they're frequently a direct cost saving. Biogas from manure can offset cooking or generator fuel; solar power reduces exposure to grid instability and diesel price swings.

Manure management done well is also a revenue opportunity — composted manure is a marketable product to crop farmers, turning a waste-disposal problem into a secondary income stream.

Water conservation reduces both cost and disease risk, since clean, adequately available water is central to both growth performance and hygiene.

At Symas Farms, solar energy, biogas, compost production, and water conservation are built into our farm operations from the ground up — not bolted on afterward.
