Designing Pig Housing for Ghana's Climate

5 March 2026

Pigs have limited ability to regulate body temperature through sweating, which makes housing design critical in Ghana's warm climate. Poor ventilation directly reduces growth rates and breeding performance.

Orientation, roof height, and natural cross-ventilation matter more than expensive cooling equipment for most farms. Shaded outdoor access and adequate spacing per pig also reduce heat stress significantly.

Separate housing zones for farrowing sows, weaners, growers, and finishers make disease control and management dramatically easier than a single mixed-age barn.

Our farm services team designs housing layouts specific to herd size, budget, and site conditions — from simple weaner housing to full farrow-to-finish layouts.
