Artificial Insemination vs. Natural Boar Service: Which Is Right for You?
10 April 2026
Artificial insemination (AI) allows farms to access superior genetics without the cost and biosecurity risk of keeping (or transporting) a boar. It's especially valuable for smaller farms that want to improve growth rate or litter size without a large upfront investment.
Natural boar service remains simpler logistically and can be more reliable in areas with limited access to fresh or frozen semen. It also allows continuous, on-demand breeding without timing constraints.
Most commercial operations use a mix: AI for genetic improvement in the core breeding herd, and natural service as a backup or for smaller satellite groups.
Our breeding services team can help you evaluate which approach — or combination — fits your herd size, goals, and infrastructure.
